Silica-Glass Powders & Fillers

Product Name: SLS

Product Type: Sodium Lime Silicate

Product Description/Application:
SLS Range are made from 100% soda/lime glass and have been produced as a direct replacement for fine graded silica and limestone powders, which act as a bulking agent and more importantly as a structural component

Glass powders have a lower density in comparison to silica which improves the workability while providing a smoother consistency. The lower density also means that Glass powders are a much more effective bulking agent than other high density powders. Glass powders do not absorb water and therefore don’t interfere with the hydration process. Because of such low absorption Glass powders do not exhibit any particle moisture expansion when mixed with water, making the product less susceptible to shrinkage when cured.

Glass powders have similar mechanical characteristics when compared to other fillers at particle sizes below 0.5mm. Glass powders are none soluble in water, non flammable, weather resistant and are fully compatible with chemical admixtures. Glass powders have been widely accepted by academics to possess pozzolanic properties, particularly in fine particle fractions which contribute to additional strength in cementitious products. In the production of glass, silica sand is changed chemically from a crystalline to an amorphous state. The amorphous silica within the chemical composition of the glass is what contributes to its pozzolanic behavior. Ultimately manufacturing using Glass powders benefit in terms of strength, workability and shrink resistance.
